Is too much knowledge (information) a bad thing?

Love this HBR post by Jeff Stibel regarding the issue with gathering too much information when making a decision.

The many comments below the post are equally fascinating.

Selling into the insurance industry I have seen the analysis paralysis issue which this article describes first hand too many times. This article accurately puts into words something I have made a point to be aware of each time a large decision presents itself.

Professionals know how to run Meetings - 2 excellent articles

How much time and money is wasted by poorly run meetings? How much more effective would we be and how much more profitable would our companies be if our meetings and all the meetings in our company were well run?

As productive and invigorating as a well run meeting is, a poorly run meeting can suck the life out of an entire team. Enough poorly run meetings destroy organization morale. Time spent learning how to run a meeting professionally is a game changer.

Here are a couple of excellent articles on how to effectively run and facilitate meetings:

Interesting Article on Leadership

Over the years Jenny Sutton and Gordon Perchthold of the RFP Company, who a couple of tradeshow friends, have written some wonderfully insightful articles on a variety of business, strategy and leadership issues. However I think this is one of their best.

Because it is available on a PDF click here for the page then choose the article titled "The Imperative for Strategy and Leadership".

Although this short article is focused on the business and leadership issues that foreign offices of insurance companies face, many of the insights are applicable to businesses of all sizes and locations. Worthwhile reading for anyone running or wanting to run a business.

All around a great article and an important message. Laurie Vincent totally knows what she is talking about here.

Wow what a post by Google regarding issues in China!

Now this is an interesting post! What is Google going to do in China? This will be turning into a huge public issue over the next several days and will no doubt have long term repercussions. Very glad this is being made so public.

For all the well deserved grief that Google gets for maintaining so much information on all of us, they seem to be going in the right direction on this.

How Starbucks Handles Layoffs - with Dignity

Another great article on the Ragan web site. However, it is more than a little concerning that a company treating its employees with dignity is newsworthy. Shouldn't this be the norm? Sad commentary in some ways.

Great conversation about measuring results of PR and Social Media

While this is an interesting article, the comments below are where it gets really facinating.

Don't forget to read the Forbes article which is mentioned multiple times.

Personally I believe that we should always track results and develop measurement over time. Always begin with clear objectives so it is possible to determine as much as possible a ROI.

I have found that if there are multiple campaigns and PR efforts running all at the same time then tracking the results of each effort individually may not be possible but sometimes proxy counts can be used instead. For example, number of website hits, number of leads, amount of sales, etc. Basically what happened with these numbers before, during and after the campaigns.

Yes we should use proper terminology and I do agree that ROI means return on money spent.
